The Compendium artworks have grown out of my desire to know more of the names and characteristics of flora and fauna of our planet. I've been researching lists of names, catalogs and logs of species of every kind of life. These texts become the raw material for the artworks.
POLLINATORS is composed from the names of native North American bees of which there are 4,000 varieties, none of which make honeycomb hives. Only the imported European honeybee does this. But the native bees are responsible for the pollination of practically every single plant besides just a few pollinated by European honeybees. WILDFLOWERS is composed from a list of the names of California wildflowers and so on.
